Palawan Day 3: Honday Bay, Pambato Reef and Pandan Island

I am THIS busy that it took me three months  to continue blogging our Palawan Trip (earlier posts were Puerto Princesa Underground River and Puerto Princesa Accommodation: Ysabelle Mansion). I'd better start this before it takes me another month to finish it. LOL!

So here.....with just few hours of sleep the night before, our next destination is Honda Bay for Island Hopping. Since I did not arrange for any package tour. We hired someone who can be our driver and tourist guide at the same time and has a rent-a-car/van where we can all fit comfortably. He charged us P1300 instead of P1500 for dropping and picking us up from the Pension House to New Market to Honda Bay. In return for the discount given, we hired him again the next day for the City Tour; which is to follow after this post.

Call time was at 9AM. We first stopped at a nearby grocery store to buy some snacks, disposable utensils like plates, etc and mineral water. After which, we also dropped by at New Market (they also have the so-called Old Market) where we bought our foodies at VERY CHEAP prices.

We had all of these cooked at Pandan Island except for the Lato or Seaweeds which is ready to eat,  but of course after washing it thoroughly.

Clockwise: Fresh Squids sold at P120/Kilo ; Lato (kind of edible grape-like seaweed) ; Sea Urchins which are breathing and alive sold at P20/ heap or pile  and The the superdelish Parrot Fish sold at P70 / kilo.

While we were busy roaming around the market, the driver AKA tourist guide reminded us that we should be at Honda Bay before 10AM. We were on the dot. Just after we were able to register, the Coast Guard informed us that Registration has been closed and that we are the last group allowed to proceed for the Island Hopping (thank heavens!). I am not sure if the reason behind the early closure is because of the storm signal declared by PAG-ASA that day or if registration really closes at around 11:00 AM. So if you are planning to go here, better make it early just to be on the safe side.

After paying the necessary fees, the 2 boatmen helped us board the motorized boat.

It took us about 25 minutes before reaching this Turtle-looking floater; this just means that we are already at Pambato Reef. If you plan on getting off your boat, you will need to pay P50, whether you are plunging into the waters or not. Now, if you are not yet wearing your swimsuit, there is a cubicle here where you can change. Kewl eh? :-)

First stop over: Pambato Reef

After Pambato Reef, we decided to go to Pandan Island since it's almost lunch. Here, we found some locals who sells variety of sea foods and are more than willing to cook them for you at a very minimal charge.

At Pandan Island, you need to at least have a cottage reservation prior to your visit not unless you are good with wooden tables and couches, especially during peak season. But no need to fret since these couches are placed under shady trees.

This is the Grilling Area. You can asked your friendly boatmen to grill or cook your foodies. I tell you, they were trained for it :-)
