Mom woke up at 4AM asking me what viands I would like to have for the day. She, together with the housekeeper will buy some food at the wet market for a week's consumption. It was the first time that mom and I saw each other and talked within 2 days since I had a double shift two nights before that. I slept from 2PM Saturday and woke up at 4AM, Sunday. We talked for about half an hour updating ourselves about what had happened for the entire week. After the "mini chitchat", I went back to bed as if the 14 hours of sleep were not enough to bring me back to my senses. I was able to sleep again and woke up at 11AM, just ready for lunch. Mom cooked the Kare-kare (A Philippine stew which is made from peanut sauce with a variety of vegetables, stewed oxtail, beef, and occasionally offal or tripe. Meat variants may include pork meat or rarely chicken. It is often eaten with bagoong or shrimp paste) herself instead of just letting our housekeeper do the cooking. I am very, very thankful that I have a mom like her. She may nag sometimes but we know that there's always a very good reason behind her doing that.
At 11:30 AM we were all seated at the dining table together with my niece, who was in his high chair. We make it a point that if everybody is around, we all dine together. This is what our parents taught us when we were growing up; to have meals together as a family and share God's blessings together. We had Kare-Kare for lunch and ripe mangoes and watermelon for dessert. At 2PM, mom prepared her homemade Halo-halo (from Tagalog word halò, "mix" which is a popular Filipino dessert that is a mixture of shaved ice and milk to which are added various boiled sweet beans and fruits, and served cold in a tall glass or bowl) and it was then that they asked me if I could drive for them because they wanted to go at the mall. Everybody began to fix and we were all set at 6PM. Our first stop was at Marquee Mall to buy my nephew an Inflatable pool which was a treat from his dad and a bike, treat from his Lola - my mom.
My nephew has a mini car that can be driven manually or set to automatic. However, his nanny told my mom that he seems to like riding a bike because he gets thrilled just seeing his playmates in the morning ride a bike at the park. Knowing my mom, she would think ten times before buying her own shoes but will not even have second thoughts of buying anything for my nephew as long as it's "affordable" and fits her so-called "budget".
My nephew saw this neon green bike first on which he rode and would not want to leave anymore.
But when he saw the other bike which is grey in color with the music playing on it, his attention was diverted on the grey bike.
He likes it so much that we requested from the saleslady to have a new one assembled. Since there was a "Sale" at the mall, the bike which was regularly priced at P2000, was discounted to P1790.
After which, we went to the Inflatable Pools section. His dad wanted to buy one for him because he noticed that whenever he takes a bath, he would not want to leave his tub anymore. We had it tested so they inflated it and had it deflated afterwards. It was originally priced at P2499 but we were able to buy it at a discounted price of P2000.
After buying the pool and bike, we went to SM Clark to buy some groceries, which is also good for a week's consumption. Mom made it a point to at least fill the pantry because she will be leaving on Tuesday for Tagaytay due to a business meeting and will be back by Thursday. We were done at around 9PM and decided to go home. Arlyn, our housekeeper managed to cook Pancit Guisado (stir-fried rice noodles with shrimp and assorted vegetables) and Lumpiang Shanghai (type of egg roll, except it's mainly filled with meat and some selected vegetables) before taking her off, which we had for dinner. It was a great way to spend a day off. Every minute was worthwhile. Looking forward to another Sunday with my Nephew :0)
Tita loves you so much! mwah!
